Driver dies after slamming into 18-wheeler on Katy Freeway

HOUSTON — A driver was killed in a high-speed crash on the Katy Freeway heading outbound close to Park Ten early Tuesday, based on the Houston Police Division.

The freeway remained closed heading westbound as HPD carried out its investigation and crews labored to clear the scene. 

“A white SUV had his hazards on for an unknown cause and was weaving out and in at a excessive charge of pace,” Sgt. R. Dallas, with the HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division, stated. “He then struck the wall on the right-hand facet of the freeway, stayed within the emergency lane, and struck a disabled 18-wheeler that was carrying a tractor-trailer at the moment.”

Houston Hearth Division responded to the scene and pronounced the SUV driver lifeless, police stated. His id has not been launched.

Dallas stated investigators haven’t decided if impairment was an element. Nevertheless, a witness on the scene informed officers the SUV gave the impression to be touring at a excessive charge of pace earlier than the crash.

“It seems that he hit his brakes one time as soon as he struck the wall after which he was again on the fuel,” Dallas stated. “We do know that pace might have performed an element.”

The disabled 18-wheeler was parked within the emergency lane with its hazard lights on on the time of the crash, and its driver was not injured, police stated.

Authorities are working to find out the SUV’s pace on the time of affect. HPD’s Truck Enforcement Unit was dispatched to examine the 18-wheeler, although police stated the truck was not at fault.
