Golfer dies week after being struck by lightning at Ballyowen Golf Course in Hardyston, NJ


HARDYSTON, N.J. (WPVI) — A person who was struck by lightning whereas {golfing} final week has died.

Simon John Mariani, 28, was struck July 8 throughout a contest on the Ballyowen Golf Membership in Hardyston, New Jersey.

The 28-year-old sufferer was taken to the hospital, the place he died Monday.

Brian Delia, a fellow golfer who witnessed the lightning strike, spoke to our sister station, WABC.

Delia stated the sufferer was struck about 300 yards in entrance of him.

Delia stated that was when he began filming.

“I began filming, and he was proper in entrance of me, and unexpectedly the lightning strikes and I ended the video recording, and we instantly simply began heading again to the clubhouse,” Delia stated.

Delia stated he didn’t know somebody had been struck by lightning till police arrived and stated somebody had been injured on the fifteenth gap, which is on the “exact opposite nook” of the clubhouse.

He stated the group did not obtain any warning about lightning from the course.

“No person did say something to us, we did not hear any horns to get off the course in any respect, they began blowing the horns after we have been again on the clubhouse and that was after the police have been already on the market,” Delia stated.

Crystal Springs Resort launched an announcement after the incident saying that course personnel sounded warning horns to clear the course.

They stated the golf course had been working beneath regular circumstances earlier than the storm, which developed quickly.

“The security of our visitors is certainly one of our prime priorities,” stated Michelle Abate, spokesperson for Crystal Springs Resort. “Our major concern proper now’s the well-being of the visitor and his household.”

Mariani’s wake will likely be held on Thursday, adopted by funeral providers on Friday.
