Ravenous, uncared for animals rescued from Crosby, Houston SPCA says

The 34 animals have been present in small pens, standing in a poisonous mixture of mud, feces, and urine roughly three inches deep, the SPCA’s Animal Cruelty Crew mentioned.

CROSBY, Texas — The proprietor of dozens of livestock present in “really deplorable situations” in Crosby might face animal cruelty fees, the Houston SPCA mentioned on Friday.

Their Animal Cruelty Crew and Precinct 1 deputies rescued a horse, 11 miniature horses, three zebus, two rabbits, 5 chickens, six sheep, and 6 goats from the property close to Freeway 90 and Lord Street. Zebus are a species of cattle from South Asia.

They mentioned the animals have been ravenous and coated in filth with no entry to water or satisfactory meals.

“Packed right into a small, barren area with no grazing, these harmless animals stood in ankle-deep feces and urine with ribs seen from starvation,” the SCPA mentioned. “Their drained eyes pleaded for assist.”

Houston SPCA’s veterinary group labored late into the evening to offer every animal with pressing medical care. 

“Many of those animals are displaying seen indicators of malnutrition and neglect,” mentioned Dr. Roberta Westbrook, Chief Veterinarian at Houston SPCA.

Now, they’re being cared for within the Equine & Farm Animal Rescue Heart, with spacious stalls, recent hay, and clear water. 

“For the primary time in a very long time, they’re experiencing care, kindness, and hope,” the SPCA mentioned.
